It has been a week since the incident involving a French fishing vessel and the Open 60 HUGO BOSS that was arriving to Les Sables d’Olonne for the Vendee Globe race. The 25 strong build and operational team is now in place and work on HUGO BOSS is underway, with the photo showing how the build team cut away the area of the damaged hull in anticipation of the replacement section.

The ill-fated transatlantic record attempt by the 99-foot Juan K designed Speedboat, which had been re-branded as Virgin Money when Sir Richard Branson (seen waving in red) was brought on to fund the project. The attempt was cancelled after two days of harsh weather (click here to read reports).

With the back drop of Newport, RI transforming from summertime madness to sublime, gorgeous fall weather, the inaugural regatta celebrating Helen Johnstone's spirit proved to be a fun and memorable gathering of friends from the world's sailing community (click here to read the report). Past speed sailing record holder Antoine Albeau of France and 13 times British Champion windsurfer Guy Cribb windsurfed across the English Channel in a storm, taking the long route from Cherbourg to Poole (70 miles), to raise money for the Ellen MacArthur Trust. Said Guy Cribb, "This was the toughest day's windsurfing of my life. I've sailed in 30ft surf and 70 mph winds before, but nothing was as hard as this crossing. At the half way stage I left my kit and clambered on board the rescue boat exhausted. I was sea sick, cold, starving and had absolutely no energy left. I then had to jump back into the sea, 30 miles from England with only one way home. I had cramp everywhere but had to finish it for the charity. It was an amazing day!"
