With all the big boats hauled out for the winter at Cleveland's Edgewater Yacht Club, Nancy Zangerle and Keven Eiber race a 420 toward the 634-foot Buffalo as it unloads a cargo of iron ore taconite. Photo by Tom Russell

From Tom Causin, Ashburn, Virginia: "Your photos of the Volvo Ocean Race stop over in Cochin, India reminded me of a photo I took during the in-port race during the 2006 VOR Annapolis/Baltimore stopover. Nothing says friendly yacht racing like forward mounted Automatic Weapons!"

Beetlecat sailors around Buzzards Bay convened for a day of match racing in one of Bourne's protected harbors - Squeteague. 25 prospective skippers appear and race until only one winner remains. Organizer John York inscribes the winning trophy cup with the permanent magic marker while the winners, Jane Kirk O'Connor, and her crew, Fritz Casselman, look on happily. Photos and info from Emily L. Ferguson.

The list of leading sailing centers in the U.S. certainly includes Newport, RI. Obvious, right? Photo by William Tuthill.

From Emily L. Ferguson: "Here are a couple pix from the shutter party for the new copy of 6 Meter, Cherokee. She's being built in the Museum of Yachting by a crew lead by David Stimson of Boothbay Harbor. The tradional christening of the final plank with David and his assistant, Robin, siding the shutter into place."

From Terry Flynn: "Attached is a photo of a Flying Fifteen sailing the South Africa National Champs offshore Durban with William Crockett at the helm. In the background is the new soccer stadium (Moses Mahiba Stadium) being built for the 2010 Soccer World Cup."

Nothing says fun winter sailing on San Francisco bay better than a round up and a shrimp. Photos by Charlie Bergstedt.

From Steve Neville, Treasurer, Indian River Yacht Club: "I have attached a few photos from the 2008 Catalina 22 Florida State Championship won by Don Lasky and his boat Flip Flop and Fly. The weather was great - mid 60's to the low 70's, winds ranged from 20 knots on Saturday and to 15 knots on Sunday. 13 boats from around Florida competed on the Indian River near Cocoa, FL, organized by the Indian River Yacht Club. The Catalina 22 Southeast Mid Winters will be held February 21-22 at IRYC." -- Click here for results.
