Scuttlebutt Photos of the Week February 21-27, 2009 A random assortment of photos submitted to Scuttlebutt this week. Click here to submit your photos for consideration.  Last week marked the unfortunate one year anniversary of Joe Mello’s yacht rigging business burning to the ground (entire story in Scuttlebutt 2536). Rigging Solutions LLC has since been rebuilt, and today the fire seems to be a distant memory. Everyone at Rigging Solutions is very thankful for all of the loyal customers and supportive suppliers that helped make this return possible. This picture seems very fitting as one year later Mr. Mello and Rigging Solutions are back doing what they do best! A new race was launched this week in Antigua, the RORC Caribbean 600, which saw Mike Slade’s 100ft Maxi, ICAP Leopard complete the route on Feb. 25th to set the monohull elapsed time for future yachts to beat. With a crew of 21, a case of beer doesn't go too far. Photo by Tim Wright.  Travel a little further south in the Caribbean, and Slade's boat might look a little goofy when compared to some of the local boats that ply those waters. The solo Vendee Globe around the world race sailors often complained about getting smacked by random flying fish, but they never mentioned anything like this. From the famed Newport Beach, CA to Ensenada, MX Race, here is a reminder that sometimes the 125 nm route is not just about racing. This guy decided to hitch a ride about ten miles off Dana Point on one of the boats, and spent the next seven hours sleeping and barking at the crew. Photo by Jim Updike.
