Over two days of stellar conditions on May 30-31, Kevin Hall (sponsored by Southern Spars) bested a fleet of 12 to win the Oregon State Championship at "The Gorge" in Cascade Locks, OR. Kevin won the regatta with consistent tactical sailing, good boat handling, and good all-around speed. The final result was closely contested; Dalton Bergan, sailing a new Mach 2 Moth, was second with a string of four firsts in the final four races. Charlie McKee was four points further back with the other four first place finishes, followed by Morgan Larson, Adam Lowry, and Andy Mack. (Of these top 6, former 49er crews were 1, 3, 5 - a clear victory over the former 49er helms at 2, 4, 6). Click here for details.

Current 470 Womens World Champions, Erin Maxwell and Isabelle Kinsolving, were the lone American team to land on the podium last week at the 2009 Delta Lloyd Regatta, event five of the 2008-09 ISAF Sailing World Cup. Event website: www.deltalloydregatta.org/2009

Last week the World Match Racing Tour was in Germany, with this photo appearing to show how winner Ben Ainslie (GBR, on the left) had to reach out to take his own team photo. Ainslie's crew included Iain Percy (tactics), Christian Kamp (trimmer), Mike Mottl (mainsheet) and Matt Cornwell (bow).

This week the World Match Racing Tour is in Korea, with Torvar Mirsky, (AUS) Mirsky Racing Team on the left of Adam Minoprio, (NZL) ETNZ/BlackMatch Racing, racing in the Bakewell White designed KM36s.

More than 300 adventurers travelled from all over the world to Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard on Saturday 30 May to discover which of the ten teams competing in the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race they will represent when the race starts from the Humber, on the east coast of England, on 13 September 2009.

The Oak Cliff Yacht Club in Oyster Bay, New York, recently hosted an intensive three day match race training session in their six Swedish Match 40’s and six Shields. The coaches were Dave Perry, the current US National Match Race Champion, Dave Dellenbaugh, former winner of the America’s Cup as starting helmsman and tactician on A3, and Ralf Steitz, a veteran crew on several America’s Cup efforts. From Ed Botterell: "I was passing through Bellville, Ontario the other day and stopped cold when I saw this wall painting." Maybe somebody will take all the court docurments that have been filed since the 32nd America's Cup in July 2007 and wallpaper a building with the caption, "America's Cup delayed... all because of an illegal challenger from Spain and some shoddy race rules."
