While the latest Volvo Ocean Race is finished for now, the PUMA Ocean Racing Bladerider Moths are still active and will be attending the 2009 International Moth World Championships on August 6-15 in Cascade Locks, Oregon, USA. The 101st Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac race was a slow one, with the first boat to finish was the Tartan 4100 TM CB 'Dogdayz' with an elapsed time of 64:40:04 from her start on Friday (cruising divisions started Friday while all other entrants started on Saturday, July 18th). Photo by Angela Solomon.  A spin thru Newport Harbor this week provides plenty of floating eye candy at the Newport Shipyard as the over 90-foot crowd gathred for the Newport Bucket Regattal. Photo by Michael Eudenbach.   The cameras were following the early sail days of Alinghi 5, the catamaran that the defense team is trialing for use in the 33rd America's Cup in February 2010. The 2009 OK Dinghy World Championship will be held in Kalmar, Sweden on July 23-30, where 80 competitors from 10 nations are entered, including six former world champions.  Balboa Yacht Club's ISAF Grade 3 Governor's Cup International Junior Match Racing Championship was won by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Men's team, with William Tiller (helm), Harry Thurston (middle), and Shaun Mason (bow). Since standing rigging is the largest source of windage on a mast, Hall Spars & Rigging created SCR (Seamless Carbon Rigging) to reduce drag further than ever before. As seen this year at Block Island Race Week, the Evelyn 32 Bluto got quite the makeover as owners Ben and Nan Hall and Bill Berges replaced the aluminum mast and stainless rigging with a Hall Seamless carbon mast and Hall's new Seamless Carbon Rigging. And yes, it does have yellow shrouds – the diagonals are painted yellow and the verticals are red, matching the boat's graphics. Click here for story.
