The new 82-foot Reichel-Pugh designed Highland Fling is now out of the shed and planning to compete in the Ida Lewis Distance Race starting Friday, 21 August 2009. The carbon weave of Highland Flings hull is impregnated with resin that is seven parts clear and one part blue. The effect is scintillating - making an already racy boat look dazzling. Final prep is occurring now at Newport Shipyard. Information from William Tuthill.

Seventy-one competitors from six countries enjoyed great sailing conditions in Medemblik for the 2009 World O’pen Cup.

Here’s a photo of one of Peter Harken’s two 30-foot woodies. It’s a replica of a 1926 race boat that does a very real 70! Since the America's Cup boats will now employ engines to power their systems, could this be some Harken R&D? (ok Peter, you can now call this a business expense).

Fifty-one boats were competing this week at the Pata Boats Finn World Junior Championship at Balatonfüred in Hungary.

Taken at the FruitBowl Youth Training Regatta in Quebec, Canada, this photo either demonstrates the length at which a coach will attempt to appeal to the young sailor, or the starting point from which he must begin. Photo by Robert Steiner.

Every summer it is the same thing, where a group of North American teenagers hit the road, traveling to all the places that the rest of us wish we could go. The top North Americans at the 29er World Championships at Riva del Garda, Italy were (from left to right) David Liebenberg and Maxwell Fraser (USA) in ninth, while the 54 boat silver fleet was won by Americans Paris Henken with Chris Rast. Looks like Rast might have needed to seek althernative company for any wine touring.
