Mike Slade's 100ft Canting Keel Maxi ICAP Leopard crossed the 608-mile Rolex Fastnet Race finish line at the Plymouth Breakwater at 01:09:36 BST on Wednesday 12th August 2009 after 2 days, 11 hours, 9 minutes and 36 seconds elapsed time. Photo by Carlo Borlenghi.

The BOR 90 trimaran seen sailing off of Point Loma in San Diego, overtaking the replica of the 1851 America's Cup winner, the schooner America. The two boats represent 158 years of America’s Cup compeition. Photo by Gilles Martin-Raget.

The progress of the new $1.7 million Milwaukee Community Sailing Center facility saw the seven gluelam beams get set this week for framing the building's roof. The 6,000+ square-foot facility is expected to be complete by Spring 2010.

This photo from Emily L. Ferguson is of the Leo J. Telesmanick regatta, the annual regatta of the New England Beetle Cat Boat Association. It was held this year in Pleasant Bay, in Chatham, MA, on Cape Cod. More than 30 boats attended from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The overall winner was Karen Renzulli with crew Tim Fallon. You may recall their connection with Team WHishbone, sometime winners of the Team Racing Hinman, Wilson and Worlds, as well as Tim's commissioning of the 28' Hanley catboat Kathleen a few years ago.

A brutal reminder that autopilots are only as smart as their operators. Here we have a Blackfin 33 that last week hit San Clemente Island off the California coast while on autopilot. Understood that speed was between 18 and 20 knots. Nobody hurt but the insurance company. Photo by Robert Bents.

Finishing third at the 2009 Womens’ 420 Class World Championship in Riva del Garda, Italy were Sydney Bulger and Caitlin Beavers (USA). GT Foto di Gianni Tomazzoni.

If the 33rd America's Cup is held at Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, hopefully the venue will have progressed beyond this Google Earth image dated December 23, 2004.

Photog Leighton O'Connor reminds us that when boat shopping, we must consider all the features we may require...even a doggy door.
