The Swiss Defender of the 33rd America’s Cup docked in the Emirate of Ras al Khaimah on Wednesday morning after a 12 day, 4,400nm voyage aboard Rickmers Singapore, a cargo ship. The 193m ship left Genoa, Italy, on 18 September with the giant catamaran, Alinghi 5, two masts, seven support vessels and approximately 20 containers on board. It travelled across the Mediterranean, through the Suez Canal and Gulf, across the Red and then Arabian Sea before docking in Saqr Port, Ras al Khaimah in the Arabian Gulf at 06:30 CET on Wednesday 30 September. Photo: Carlo Borlenghi/Alinghi  During this year's Port Huron to Mackinaw Island race, the turning mark was not where the sailing instructions said it was suppose to be. With fog and early morning low light conditions, it was difficult for some to find the mark. The sailing instructions said to make a visual rounding of the mark. Bill Alcott's, Andrew 70, Equation did just that!!! They were sailing for line honors, first to finish. They deserve the right to wear the shirts they made up of their course to find the mark. Who say's there isn't Integrity in racing anymore; there was that day on that boat. -- Jim Key, crewmember on SC70 Windancer  From Leighton O'Connor: You know it's a big boat when the crew can climb on the boom. This is Jim Clark's J Class Boat Hanuman (LOA: 138 ft). Jim is the co-founder of Netscape. His other toy is the Athena which is 295 feet. I took this last weekend in Newport Harbor during the 12 Metre Worlds. I think Jim is sitting in front of the cabin entrance with the kaki baseball cap and sun glasses. The U.S. Team Racing Championship found some snotty conditions in Marion, MA, where Team Extreme detroned Silver Panda and their three-year vice-like grip on the title. Team Extreme consisted of former and current Yale University sailors including, US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics member, McNay (Chestnut Hill, Mass.), Michael Hession (New Haven, Conn.), Zachary Brown (New Haven, Conn.), Emmet Smith (New Haven, Conn.), Thomas Barrows (St. Thomas, VI) and Marla Menninger (Costa Mesa, Calif.). At the recent National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic (Sept. 19 - 25, 2009), more than 60 recently injured veterans sailed from the San Diego Marriott Marina on the "Big Bay" in their introduction to sailing as a therapeutic activity.
