Look for coverage of the Star Worlds next week from Rio, where Americans George Szabo (left) and Rick Peters will seek to defend their 2009 title (Photo:Fred Hoffmann / ZDL). As for the rumors that it was Rick and not actor Jerry Lewis who was in the movie "The Nutty Professor", you be the judge.

The speed of the America's Cup multihulls is leading to new tools for weather analysis on the race course. Alinghi is now using two float planes to measure wind speed and direction. They can fly relatively slow, from 25 knots and up to 60, which will help to cover a race course that may stretch to 450 square miles.

The folks at Gulfport Yacht Club (Gulfport, MS) have broken the code. If you teach kids to swim in warm pool water, why not teach them to sail there too. Eliminates the need for safety boats too. Click here for the video.

From last weekeend in Long Beach, CA, here local sailors take off on a glassy sea and only 2-3 knots of breeze at the start of the 2010 Two Gates Invitational in Long Beach, CA. For winter SoCal sailing, it is either feast or famine. Photo: Rick Roberts

With summer sailing in Sydney, Australia in full swing, the 18-foot skiff teams have their sights on the elite event for the class, the JJ Giltinan International Championship to be held in February.

Not sure how this press photo from Beneteau of their new Oceanis 50 slipped into this week's photos. Any ideas?
