Scuttlebutt Photos of the Week

A random assortment of photos submitted to Scuttlebutt this week.

When does a TP52 look like a moderate sized sportboat? When shadowed by a 141-foot Wally yacht, as we see here in Palma de Mallorca at this week's Hublot PalmaVela.

Indecision in Scandinavia. Click here for more images.

It is not uncommon for Scuttlebutt to receive press releases announcing a company's intention to build a new boat design, when in fact the company is merely fishing for a customer for their new boat design. But usually the rendering appears very refined, unlike this sketch from Sunreef Yachts which is "introducing a new range of fast and performant [sic] sailing catamarans from 80 to 150 feet called ULTIMATE."

If there was a boat design Hall of Fame, the Hobie 16 would get in on the first ballot. Still carving up the surf, the class will be heading to China for their World Championship in August 2010.

Not sure why it is, but we find photos of big boats strapped to cradles that are strapped to transport ships to be facsinating. Photo courtesy of Peters and May.

Racing Star boats in Nassau does not suck. The class is in the Bahamas this week for their Western Hemisphere Championship. Photo by Fried Elliott.

Emirates Team New Zealand has partnered with shoemaker Camper to enter the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race, and while their graphics are not quite as extreme as their counterpart PUMA, it will be nice to see some stylish footwear amongst the crew when their are in port.

Here are some of the smart kids from the Fordham University Sailing Team, which chose to do some spring training at the US Sailing Center in Miami, FL rather than suffer at home in New York, NY.

A sight you never want to see, with this one occuring on San Francisco Bay at their J/Fest event last weekend. Photo by Ultimate Yachtshots.
