No harm was intended in the publishing of this photo by Emily L. Ferguson.  No, these are not martian space craft, but the weather mark approach at the Half Ton Classic Cup in the UK. We particularly like the boat on the right which has the spinnaker turtle attached to the bow pulpit. Listen up kids... this is how the spinnaker was launched "back in the day." Photo by Fiona Brown.  The new 44 cent "Forever" U.S. postage stamp was released this week. Based on a Edward Hopper's circa-1935 painting, "The Long Leg" depicts a boat sailing against the wind near Provincetown, Mass. It is one of many paintings that the artist dedicated to lighthouses and other aspects of maritime life in New England. Hopper was born in Nyack, N.Y., and spent many summers in Cape Cod. He died in 1967 at age 84.   Here are both ends of the world’s largest G-Class maxi-trimaran, Banque Populaire V measuring 131-feet. Photos by Christophe Launay.  The ISAF World Team Racing Championship commences next week (August 27 - September 4) in Schull, West Cork, Ireland. Here is the TR 3.6, which was designed and built specifically for team racing. Photo:Brian Carlin| Cube Images.  “This was my first offshore racing experience and definitely the highlight of my summer,” said 14-year-old Kate Nota of Narragansett, RI of competing on Stephan Frank’s 69-foot custom sloop Gracie in the 150 nm Ida Lewis Distance Race. Nota was accompanied by 11 other youth sailors and four adults, which qualified the team for the Youth Challenge, where more than 40% of the crew must have reached their 14th birthday but not turn 20 prior to the race’s start. The team not only took home second in the IRC Class but also was presented with the Arent H. Kits van Heyningen Trophy for their youth division performance. Photo: Onne van der Wal.
