Who will be the NOOD Champion of Champions?

For the past seven years, sailors at the NOOD regattas have been competing to be named the Sailing World NOOD Regatta Overall Champion. But the title earns more than a trophy…it earns the right to compete in a championship of NOOD champions.

In early November, the 2013 Caribbean NOOD Championship will gather all the NOOD winners, fit them in Sunsail charter boats in the Caribbean to find out who the 2013 Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Overall Champion.

Meet the players…

St. Petersburg
His boat’s age—35 years—was nothing but a number as Robby Brown dominated the J/24 class at the 2013 Sperry Top-Sider St. Petersburg NOOD Regatta and earned overall honors for the first event of the 2013 NOOD Regatta Series.

San Diego
Jim Sears, skipper of the San Diego NOOD Regatta’s overall winning Viper 640 F.N.G., explains how he and crew Sarah Hester and Rachel Ellis got it done in tough conditions. His team is REALLY looking forward to the BVI NOOD party, er, regatta for some great racing!

Annapolis
Bennet Greenwald, our only skipper to sail all six events this year, nabbed the Overall Winner title in Annapolis beating out a very strong J/70 fleet.

Seattle

Dan Kaseler won the Melges 24 class and Seattle Sperry Top-Sider NOOD for the second time, after taking the honors in 2009.

Chicago
Team Spanker took top honors as the Chicago NOOD Overall Winner for 2013. Team Spanker sails a Beneteau 40.7 owned by brothers Dennis & Jim McDonnell. Winning the Chicago NOOD was not this team’s first accomplishment; they are a 2-time Chicago NOOD Winner, 4-time Chicago to Mackinac Island Race class winner and a Beneteau 40.7 North American Championship Winner as well.

Marblehead
Skip Shumway, of Shumway Marine, was named the Overall Winner at the 2013 Marblehead NOOD racing his Sonar Beat Dawn S. Skip has raced with most of his crew for over 20 years, and is most looking forward to the rum parties and the chance to play in the BVIs.
