New Speed Record Ratified

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified a new Bermuda to Plymouth outright record set by the MOD70 Phaedo 3, sailed by co-skippers Lloyd Thornburg (USA)/ Brian Thompson (GBR) and four crew. The team completed the 2870 nm passage on April 29-May 5 in a time of 05:11:57:17 at an average speed of 21.75 knots. The previous record of 14:06:12:50 was set by Ross Hobson (GBR) on the 43-foot trimaran Mollymawk in August 2004.
