Gamagori, Japan (August 6, 2017) – Jonathan and Libby Johnson McKee (USA) won the Tasar World Championship 2017, confirming their fourth title in the class today when the winds did not blow for the final race of the series.

“We are really happy. We had worked hard but this is more than expected,” said Jonathan. “We hope to keep sailing Tasars for many years come and never walk away this community.”

“We just expected to have a great time here because we love Japan. And now we are the tops of the world, really? Wow,” added Libby. “We started sailing Tasars before we were married about 29 years ago and now after being married for 27 years we are still sailing together.”

Mckees won the 11-race series with a 22 point margin over 2016 champions Chris Dance and Jeremy Elmslie (AUS) who finished second with Robert and Nicole Douglass (AUS) two points further back in third.

Racing was held August 1 to 6. The next Tasar Worlds will be held in Hayling Island, Great Britain in July 2019.
