No runaways at Laser North Americans

Published on July 14th, 2018

Long Beach, CA (July 14, 2018) – All three fleets at The Moorings 2018 Laser North American Championships completed three more races on the third day of the competition. With now nine races on the scoreboard, a second discard is counted as competitors move tomorrow to the final day of racing.

The fight continues at the top of the Laser 4.7 division as Spencer Leman (CAN) and Abbie Carlson (USA) are now even on top of the 10-boat fleet. Leman’s erased his one point deficit entering the day by posting a 3-1-1.

Canadians Brenda Bowskill and Sarah Douglass remain the pacesetters in the Laser Radial division, but the consistency of Bowskill with a 1-2-2 gives is proving to be difficult to dislodge her from the lead. With no race worse than second place, her discard advantage will prove formidable to the chasing pack.

In the 69-boat Laser fleet, Americans Charlie Buckingham and Chris Barnard are still the 1-2 punch, but Buckingham gained a little breathing room on his teammate after posting a 1-3-1.

To complete the 12-races series as described in the Sailing Instructions, three more races in all fleets are anticipated for the final day of racing.

Racing is planned for July 12 to 15.
