Top 36 for High School Singlehandeds

Published on October 24th, 2018

The top 36 singlehanded high school sailors from around the country will compete at the 2018 Cressy High School Singlehanded Championship on October 27-28 in Holland, Michigan. Each sailor has earned a spot by qualifying at championship regattas in their respective districts, and will compete for either the Laser Standard Full Rig or Laser Radial title.

Two sailors are returning in the Full rig division from last year’s Championship to vie for the Standard Laser title including Caleb Yoslov from Redwood HS (Larkspur, CA) who finished 7th overall last year, and Nikolas Chambers of the Latin School of Chicago (Chicago, IL) who finished 16th. Caden Scheiblauer of Santa Barbara HS (Santa Barbara, CA) competed in the Radial division in 2017 and have now moved up to the Full Rig.

In the Radial division, five returning competitors will make for stiff competition. Lillian Myers of Riverview HS (Sarasota, FL) who finished 2nd overall in 2017 returns and Marcus Huttunen from powerhouse Point Loma HS (San Diego, CA) will try to best his 3rd place finish last year against fellow returnees Cameron Giblin and Luke Arnone, both of the Ranney School (Tinton Falls, NJ), and Lawson Levine from Highland Park HS (Highland Park, IL).

Macatawa Bay should serve up possible rain for the weekend, with fall-like conditions and chilly temperatures. Early forecasts show mid-teen predictions for the wind. Racing is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday; conditions permitting.

The event is organized by the Interscholastic Sailing Association in conjunction with the host Macatawa Bay Yacht Club and the Macatawa Bay Junior Association and title sponsor LaserPerformance.
