Celebrating a life well-lived

Published on June 25th, 2019

The second annual Latham Bell Dinghy Challenge on June 29 will seek to empty the boat racks in Long Beach, CA. Utilizing the Portsmouth Handicap Rating system, this event offers an epic opportunity to get as many dinghies on the water and bring together the sailing community to celebrate a life well-lived.

Latham was a teacher by trade and used that talent to introduce countless kids to sailing, and used his passion and consideration to make the sport better at his home base of Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. After his passing in 2018, the local community returned the favor.

A newly established Perpetual Trophy was awarded to the overall first place finisher with nearly 70 participants together racing a variety of boats for a fun day on the bay with libations and burger bash that followed. .

All proceeds go to benefit the ABYC Junior program. For details, click here.
