Modderman rolling at Hobie 16 North Americans

Published on June 8th, 2021

Ocean Springs, MS (June 8, 2021) – The second day at the 2021 Hobie 16 North American Championships received SSE wind of 10-13 knots which allowed four more races to be completed. However, the pressure wasn’t always consistent requiring continuous management of the wind as well as big fleet tactics.

The outgoing tide continues to challenge competitors on the start line and it’s quite easy to get swept over the start line. Additionally, the choice as to whether to go left or right is a challenge as the right is protected by a headland which make it smooth but gusty or the left which is in the channel and current, slightly better pressure but bumpy.

After nine races, Mark and Grace Modderman (USA) maintain their lead followed by John and Dylan Tomko (USA) and Rich and Carol Mcveigh (USA) in third.

Forty-five teams are competing from June 7 to 11.
