Mitch and Ruben Booth take lead at Formula 18 Worlds

Published on July 16th, 2015

Kiel, Germany (July 16, 2015) – The 2015 Formula 18 World Championship concluded the qualifying series, needing just one race today to meet the six race schedule.

With a light breeze between 5 and 9 knots it was a big guess what side of the course to choose. In both yellow and blue fleet races had to start with the black flag. Over 30 BFDs (Black Flag Disqualification) were noticed and shuffled the overall result.

Defending 2014 World Champions Gunnar Larsen/ Ferdinand van West (NED) dropped from the lead to second overall after a BFD start, surrendering the top position to Mitch Booth, sailing with his 14 year old son Ruben (ESP), while Americans Taylor Reiss/ Matthew Whitehead and Oscar Zeekant/Karel Begemann (NED) are tied for third.

The top half of the fleet will now vie for the world title on July 17-18, with their qualifying scores combined with their final scores.
