The bad news is how Key West Race Week remains on the shelf, with 30 years of great memories collecting dust. But the good news is how 2022 will reveal the launch of The Southernmost Regatta powered by Sailing Inc.

Mark your calendar for Jan 17-21 for needed winter relief on the picturesque blue waters of Key West, FL.

However, for clarity, do not dare call Key West the southernmost point in the USA. It’s not. Ka Lae, which is Hawaiian for “The Point,” is on Hawaii’s Big Island, and is as far south as you can go in the United States. Follow along the narrow road off Mamalahoa Highway to the wind-blown and rural site.

Far from other tourist draws, though popular with cliff divers, there’s a sign to confirm you’ve arrived at Ka Lae, but don’t expect any shops, restaurants, or lively nightlife. That’s what you find at the southernmost point in the continental USA… Key West.

After hosting the 2021 Key West Winter Series for the J/111 Class, Sailing Inc. is taking a bigger step with The Southernmost Regatta powered by Sailing Inc. with eligibility open to one design keelboats, ORC monohulls, and ORCmh multihulls. Course options will include windward / leeward and distance races.

The focus of this limited entry event is to maximize sailor’s enjoyment on and off the water by getting back to the basics of what makes Key West great; the opportunity to race at a tropical venue, experience the island culture, and reconnect with friends during the cold winter months.
