Eight Bells: Dave Hood

Published on July 9th, 2025

Former Long Beach Yacht Club Commodore Dave Hood, a retired inventor and businessman who was also a 2025 Congressional Cup semifinalist, has died. He was 67.

Hood, who spent 20 years in the aerospace industry, died from kidney cancer on Thursday, July 3, at his Signal Hill (CA) home, with his wife, Susan Hood; daughter, Tiffany Hood; and sister-in-law by his side. He had been released from the hospital to home hospice just five days earlier.

“Always the fighter, he decided this was the end,” Susan Hood said. “He loved working on difficult problems, whether it was work on Long Beach Yacht Club commodore projects or his later-in-life sailing career.” – Full report
