Celebrating excellence in Canada

Sail Canada annually celebrates the nation’s top recreational and competitive sailors, coaches, volunteers, and events via the Sail Canada Annual Awards. Here are some of the latest recipients:


• 2024 Sail West Regional Championships, hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, received the Sail Canada Chisholm Trophy for Excellence in Race Management Award for 2024. The award recognizes the club or association responsible for the regatta with the best-managed races during the timeframe of the award year. – Full report

• The Prairies’ Regional Cadet Support Unit has been awarded Sail Canada’s 2024 William Abbott Senior Trophy for their Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Sailing Program, which has been recognized as Sail Training Program of the Year. The trophy highlights the many fine programs that are run in clubs or schools throughout Canada, and also aims to share the information among clubs for the improvement of their sail training programs. – Full report

• Brome Lake Boating Club’s Women’s Sailing Initiation Camp won Sail Canada’s Recreation Event of the Year Award for 2024. This award recognizes a club, an organization, an individual or a group, which is Canadian-based and affiliated with Sail Canada, that has contributed to the promotion of recreational sailing in Canada. – Full report

• Carlos Charabati (Montreal, QC) and Elspeth Simms (Halifax, N.S.) won Sail Canada’s 2024 Bill Burk Memorial Youth Elite Awards. This award is given out annually to two Canadian athletes/teams of different gender identities. The award recognizes sailors who are 18 years old and under and have shown a record of outstanding achievement in national and international youth competition, have brought recognition to Canadian competitive sailing, have set an example for other youth competitors through behavior and manner, and have demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship. – Full report
