Does the wheel need to be reinvented?

Olympic competition once highlighted prominent class boats, but it is now more common to create new boats to fill certain event concepts. Plus, with a mandate for a more dynamic broadcast product, event formats no longer resemble recreational racing.
But if the goal is to create excitement, Nick Bailey (Newport, RI) is confused why World Sailing is ignoring the one option in sailing that already exists and would meet the needs of the International Olympic Committee:

Why is a team race format not being advanced? Small closed course, continuous action (including collisions), lots of yelling, easy for a TV format, and much easier to follow for non-sailors than foilers and planning skiffs spread across the course.
A proven class boat could be selected that would be cheaper than the ridiculously expensive “boats” they now use. If TV excitement is the goal, team racing would deliver.
I have heard that not enough nations, especially in Europe, participate in team racing. That is misleading as The Wilson Trophy in England is a major event, plus the 2v2 format and league is growing in Europe and the US. The 2025 Team Racing World Championship in Newport featured ten nations, with those competitors going back to their country to promote team racing.

When the Kiteboard events were added to the Paris 2024 Olympic program, international participation was limited, and the skill level was far less advanced than team racing. Does the wheel need to be reinvented when it is already rolling?
