Ensenada Race has not been cancelled

Published on February 24th, 2026

After recent turmoil in Mexico cancelled the 2026 San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race, and with uncertainty when the level of safety would improve, participation in the 2026 Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race on April 24 is at risk.

Despite the Mexican state of Baja California being far from the military operation that killed a powerful Mexican cartel boss, the cartel’s outbreak of violence has reached north toward Ensenada.

However, the 124 nm race that starts from Newport Beach, California and finishes off Ensenada is on schedule.

“We remain in close communication with our local partners and authorities and will provide timely updates should conditions change,” reports Newport Ocean Sailing Association Commodore Joe Negron. “At this time, preparations for the race and associated events are proceeding as planned.”
