Peter Duncan wins J/70 North Americans

Annapolis, MD (May 15, 2021) – Fifty-nine teams battled each other and the elements at the 2021 J/70 North American Championship, and despite breezy conditions during the registration days, Mother Nature then turned off the winds, allowing three races to determine the Championship.

With racing on only one of four days, 2017 J/70 World Champion Peter Duncan and his team of Willem Van Waay, Carolos Robles, and Victor Diaz de Leon (above) posted a 2-3-5 to ultimately claim the title.

Ryan McKillen’s Surge trailed by three points to claim second overall, with Terry Hutchinson and Jenn Norwood-Wulff 11 points further back to finish third.

Zachary Segal topped the 24-boat Corinthian division, and Doug Rastello bested the eight-boat One-Pro Division. More than half of the teams competing were either all-amateurs or having just one professional crew.

Racing was planned for May 12-15, with five races initially required to constitute the championship, but was revised by the Class Executive Committee to three races due to the light winds.
