Norwegians win Nassau leg of Snipe Winter Circuit

Published on March 29th, 2014

Nassau, Bahamas (March 29, 2014) – The final day of the Dudley Gamblin Memorial, the last stop on the four event Snipe Winter Circuit, looked promising for a little lighter winds. After a quick rain squall to clear the air and give everyone a wake up morning shower, sailors left the dock in 10-12 knots out of the south south east.

A windward leeward course was set at 160 degrees. With the winds coming off the shore, there were regular shifts of 25 to 30 degrees but nothing to require a course change and providing a different type of sailing to the big breeze and small shifts of the prior days. First in race 4 of the Gamblin series went to Robert Dunkley and Michelle Lakin with Birger and Jeanette Jansen in close second, creating a showdown between the two in the final race. Third went to Fernando de Cardenas and Sarah Morley with fourth to Jimmie Lowe and Cameron Symonette and Gavin McKinney and Adam Boorman in 5th.

The second and final race of the series saw Birger shut Robert out at the start. Conditions at the start were bright sunshine with 12-13 knots increasing during the race to 15-16 knots. The ultimate winner of the race and the series was Birger and Jeanette. Second in the race went to Fernando de Cardenas, third to Robert Dunkley and Michelle Lakin, giving them second in the series; fourth went to John Coolidge and Jolika Buckner; fifth to Gavin McKinnney and Adam Boorman giving them third place in the series.

Norwegians Birger and Jeanette won the Charles Kelly Trophy as the low score team for the two Nassau events of the Snipe Winter Circuit. Click here for final Nassau results.
