Regata al Sol: Racing across Gulf of Mexico

Seventeen boats will start the 28th edition of the Regata al Sol from Pensacola, Florida to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, which takes racers 555 nautical miles across the Gulf of Mexico. First sailed in 1965, the race starts on May 7 for the Cruising Divisions and May 8 for the Racing Division. This biannual premier offshore race is sponsored by Southern Yacht Club, Pensacola Yacht Club, and the Club de Yates Isla de Mujeres. Defending their titles from 2012 will be Racing Division winner Stephen Murray Jr.’s Carkeek 40 Decision and Cruising Division Champions Bob Hughes/ Howard Leach on Lady Gray (Beneteau 49).
