ISAF World Sailing Rankings – 2 June 2014

The ISAF World Sailing Rankings for 2 June 2014 have been released.

Men’s 470

Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic (CRO) have moved to World #1 in the Men’s 470 overthrowing long term occupants Mat Belcher and Will Ryan (AUS).

The Croatians took gold at the 100-point Garda Trentino Olympic Week, the first EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup regatta, and count six regattas handing them 931 points.

Belcher and Ryan have slipped to World #6 and count five regattas. During the current period the Australians have competed at six regattas, four of those ISAF Sailing World Cup regattas, but like all competitors they are only able to count their best three World Cup regatta results.

Asenathi Jim and Roger Hudson (RSA) were victorious at the Delta Lloyd Regatta, a 100-point event, and move from World #35 to World #24.

Romania’s Bujo Rosca and Mihai Nicolae Fagarasan Manciu won the 50-point Regatta Port Bourgas in Bulgaria and currently occupy World #105.

Women’s 470

Camille Lecointre and Helene Defrance (FRA) have moved from World #2 to World #1 in the Women’s 470. ISAF Rolex World Sailors of the Year Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie (NZL) had held the spot in advance of the June 2014 release, counting six regattas. However, based on the 12 month rolling system they now only count five to slip to World #2.

Italy’s Roberta Caputo and Alice Sinno took gold at Garda Trentino Olympic Week and followed it up with a ninth at the Delta Lloyd Regatta. With two strong results the Italian team have moved up to World #13 from World #23.

Michelle Broekhuizen and Marieke Jongens (NED) won gold at the Delta Lloyd Regatta and as a result move up two places to a personal best of World #6.

With a 21-boat fleet at Garda Trentino Olympic Week and 14 at the Delta Lloyd Regatta there are several ups and downs in the Women’s 470 rankings.

Laser

Robert Scheidt (BRA) has moved back to World #1 in the Laser, a position he last held on 3 May 2006. Since making his Laser comeback the Brazilian has shown his younger counterparts how it’s done and after victory at Garda Trentino Olympic Week he has moved to the top of the rankings.

Nick Thompson (GBR) and former World #1 Tonci Stipanovic (CRO) trail the Brazilian at World #2 and #3 whilst Tom Burton (AUS) drops from World #2 to World #14 as he counts five regattas.

Sam Meech (NZL) came out on top at the Delta Lloyd Regatta, finishing ahead of Nicholas Heiner (NED). By taking the full 100 points Meech advances six spots up the rankings to World #10 whilst Heiner breaks into the top ten at World #8.

Three 50-point Europa Cup regattas, Palavska Regatta, Regatta Port Bourgas and the Icebreaker Regatta ensures further changes across the June 2014 ranking release.

Laser Radial

There are several movers and shakers across the Laser Radial rankings following two EUROSAF regattas and several 50-point events.

Annalise Murphy (IRL) retained the Garda Trentino Olympic Week title she won in 2013 and takes a step up the rankings to World #16.

The top three in the Laser Radial Rankings sees no change with Marit Bouwmeester (NED) at World #1 followed by Evi Van Acker (BEL) and Tatiana Drozdovskaya (BLR).

Bouwmeester won gold at the Delta Lloyd Regatta and was followed by Van Acker in second and Drozdovskaya in sixth. Japan’s Manami Doi completed the Delta Lloyd Regatta podium and as a result goes from World #59 to World #49.

Canada’s Sarah Douglas is one the month’s biggest movers as she climbs up to World #63 from World #87. The Canadian finished 26th at Garda Trentino Olympic Week and second at the 50-point Icebreaker Regatta in Toronto, Canada reach a personal best ranking position.

49er

Denmark’s Jonas Warrer and Peter Lang hold on to World #1 in the 49er following strong results over the 2013-2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup series.

Victory at 100-point Garda Trentino Olympic Week for Julien D’ortoli and Noe Delpech ensured the French team solidified their spot at World #3.

Luca and Robert Dubbini finished runners-up to the French team in Garda and as a result move up six places to World #24.

Attentions then turned to the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, The Netherlands where Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign (GBR) walked away with the honours. Fletcher and Sign took the 100 points to climb up one place World #4.

Federico and Arturo Alonso Tellechea (ESP) put in two strong performances in Italy and the Netherlands with a fourth and a fifth. As a result the pair are this month’s biggest movers and climb up 20 places to World #25.

49erFX

Garda Trentino Olympic Week welcomed a strong fleet of racers that included World #1 Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze (BRA) and 2013 World Champions Alex Maloney and Molly Meech (NZL).

In the end the World #1 team prevailed, taking the full 100 points to remain atop of the tree whilst the Kiwis sit at World #10, counting five regattas out of a possible six.

Ida Marie Baad Nielsen and Marie Thusgaard Olsen (DEN) and Frances Peters and Nicola Groves (GBR) remain at World #2 and #3.

Finn

2014 Finn European Champion Giles Scott (GBR) holds a perfect ranking score of 600 points. The Briton has won four consecutive regattas in a row including two ISAF Sailing World Cup regattas but is currently at World #26 as he only counts four regattas compared to those around him who count six.

Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic (CRO) has strong results from six regattas and as a results holds on to World #1 followed by Oliver Tweddell (AUS).

Germany’s Phillip Kasueske took a surprise win at the 100-point Delta Lloyd Regatta and leaps up to a personal best of World #57 from World #80. Pieter Jan Postma (NED) missed out on gold in his home nation by the narrowest of margins but jumps up to World #21, counting five regattas.

Bulgaria’s Mihail Kopanov won gold at the Regatta Port Bourgas in his home nation and re-enters the rankings at World #191 having taken full points from the 50-point regatta.

Rudolf Lidarik (CZE) came out on top at the 50-point Palavska Regatta in Pavlov, Czech Republic and occupies World #100.

Nacra 17

Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri (ITA) have a 12 point advantage over Ben Saxton and Hannah Diamond (GBR) in the Nacra 17 rankings.

The Italians won gold at Garda Trentino Olympic Week to maintain the World #1 spot they claimed on 28 April, following victory at ISAF Sailing World Cup Hyères.

Billy Besson and Marie Riou (FRA) took the honours at the Delta Lloyd Regatta. The French duo count five regattas to their points total and sit at World #10.

Aruba’s Nicole van der Velden and Thijs Visser have taken in five regattas in 2014 and have risen up the rankings. After a sixth at Garda Trentino Olympic Week and a 19th at the Delta Lloyd Regatta they sit at World #19, a personal best.

Men’s RS:X

Croatia’s Luka Mratovic came out on top at Garda Trentino Week and shifts up the rankings to World #23 from World #37. Mattia Camboni (ITA) finished second to the Croatian in Garda but will be buoyed by moving up to World #2, a personal best for the youngster.

Pawel Tarnowski (POL) took the honours at the Delta Lloyd Regatta and sits at World #8. Piotr Myszka (POL) finished second to his compatriot in the Netherlands but is above him in the rankings at World #6.

Hong Kong’s Ho Tsun Leung drops from World #1 to World #9 as he loses two regattas to his points total based on the 12 month rolling system. Ricardo Santos (BRA) moves from World #2 to World #1.

Women’s RS:X

Flavia Tartaglini (ITA) retains World #1 in the Women’s RS:X after she took gold at Garda Trentino Olympic Week.

Zofia Klepacka (POL) took the Delta Lloyd Regatta honours and sits at World #25, counting three regattas.

With a second at Garda Trentino Olympic Week and a ninth at Delta Lloyd Regatta Japan’s Yuki Sunaga is the biggest mover in the Women’s RS:X Rankings. The Japanese Olympian shifts up the rankings to World #63 from World #36 but is several places off her personal best of World #19.
