Aussies Dominating Laser Masters Worlds

Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico (April 26, 2016) – The third day of the 2016 Laser Masters World Championships (Radial division) stayed on schedule, completing two races for the five age divisions.

Scott Leith (NZL) and Jon Emmett (GBR) continue to lead the Apprentice division with 1-2 finishes in today’s races, but Alejandro Rabago (MEX) dropped back to 6th place with a 12th in the second race. Ian Gregory (GBR) has claimed the number three spot.

Carlos Eduardo Wanderley (BRA) holds the lead in the Master division, discarding a 7th from the first race today, but Richard Blakey (NZL) has edged ahead of Alessio Marinelli (ITA).

In the Grand Master division, Vanessa Dudley moved ahead of Greg Adams and Jeff Loosemore with a win in the first race today, but the three Australians still control the division, followed by Luis Castro (BRA), tied with Terry Scutcher (GBR).

Robert Lowndes (AUS) held his lead of the Great Grand Master division, followed by William Symes (USA), but Michael Kinnear (GBR) moved up to third after winning both of today’s races. Similarly, in the 75+ division, Kerry Waraker (AUS) has tied with Peter Seidenberg (USA) after a pair of wins today, and is currently winning the tie-breaker.

Two races are scheduled daily from April 24 through April 30, with a midweek layday on Wednesday, April 27. With 136 sailors from 18 countries, masters sailors are aged 35 and over, with a division for each decade of age – Apprentice, Masters, Grand Masters, Great Grand Masters, and 75+.
