Don’t let one illness impact another

Over 1.3 million Americans currently battle blood cancers, with a new diagnosis every three minutes. They are men, women, children, of every race and age, and one of them dies from these cancers every nine minutes.

Since the Leukemia Cup Regatta series began in 1988, the events have helped save lives, raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to fund research, develop cures, and provide support to thousands of patients and their families.

But with the COVID-19 outbreak, the 2020 event schedule is getting impacted:
• Isles Yacht Club (Punta Gorda, FL) on March 21 has been cancelled.
• Treasure Coast Leukemia Cup Regatta (Fort Pierce, FL) on April 3-5 has been cancelled.
• Gowrie Group Connecticut River Leukemia Cup Regatta (Essex, CT), originally scheduled for May 2, has been postponed to October 3, 2020.

Even though circumstances dictated the changes in the event calendar, that doesn’t change the situation that blood cancer patients face.

“We urge everyone in and outside of the sailing community to remember the blood cancer patients, their families and caregivers who need us to continue rallying for them,” said Marty Siederer, Senior Director for the Leukemia Cup Regatta. “Continued support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the Leukemia Cup Regatta campaign brings hope to those fighting cancer.”
