Australia, Canada, USA take 29er championship titles

Kingston, ONT (July 24, 2014) – The final day of the 29er North American Open was dealt very shifty, light conditions, allowing the gold fleet to complete just one race with the silver fleet not completing any.

During the four day event, 69 teams from 10 countries were competing for the North American, United States and Canadian Championships.

The winners of the United States Championship are Max Brill and Zach Malcolm from San Diego, CA. In second are Jacob Rosenberg and Rhodes Garner of Huntington Beach, CA, and in third are Sean Brennan and Pere Puig of Miami, FL.

The winners of the Canadian Championship are Lloyd Lyall and Andrew Moreno of Vancouver, BC. In second are Rachel Spinelli and Ian Woodbury of Maple Ridge, BC and in third are Ryan Wood and Andrew Wood of West Vancouver, BC.

The overall winners, top youth boat, and this year’s North American champions, are Kurt Hansen and Harry Morton of Australia. The top female boat and second place finishers are Carla Munte and Marta Munte of Spain. In third, and also the Canadian Champions, are Lloyd Lyall and Andrew Moreno.

Winners of the silver fleet are Gilles Munro and Daniel Harris (GBR), followed by James Grummett and Daniel Budden (GBR) in second, with Ed Connellan and Matthew Rhodes (GBR) in third.

The 29er World Championship officially begins on Saturday, July 26th. The opening ceremony and a practice race are scheduled for Sunday, July 27th and the qualifying series is scheduled to begin Monday, July 28th. Over 100 boats from 14 countries will be competing, with racing to conclude on August 2.
