Johnny Heineken, Sophie Calliet win Kitefoil Gold Cup 2014

Published on October 2nd, 2014

The third and final event of the inaugural Kitefoil Gold Cup racing series was completed in sunny, windy Townsville, Australia on September 25-October 1. The races were all conducted in perfect winds, ranging from NW to SE, but mostly ESE and around 12-18 knots.

This year’s series was tightly contested, with several riders within contention of the Gold Cup title in the early stages, however by the time the series reached Australia, it became a battle between some very fast French men and women, and a couple of USA riders.

The Townsville standings had Sophie Calliet (FRA) topping the women and Nico Parlier (FRA) winning the men

Johnny Heineken (USA) was able to score three bullets on the final day to finish second but securing the overall Gold Cup title ahead of Parlier and Maxime Nocher (FRA).

Calliet showed strong racing at all three Gold Cup events in Mexico, Switzerland and Australia to became the Gold Cup winner for the females ahead of Steph Bridge (GBR).
