Cheer Loud And Be Proud

The Olympics start and end this month in what will surely be a dramatic and exciting competition of nations. For those of you who didn’t know I will be there too – coaching the U.S.A.’s Olympic Women’s 470 Team of Annie Haeger and Briana Provancha. I would like to make a small request of anyone watching: that no matter what country you’re from, no matter which athletes you’re supporting, you come out loud for your teams.

Every single one of these athletes have trained for years, and in some cases decades, for these few weeks. They are representing the best the world has to offer and have all sacrificed significantly to become as great as they have. Every athlete has pushed themselves and those around them to the limits, they have all been tested in rigorous trial and selection processes. They have all done all of this in the pursuit of a gold medal.

So cheer loud and be proud. When your team wins, celebrate their triumphs with them. If a team falters, express your support. Every one of these athletes are counting on you to follow them, cheer them on and be that one additional voice that gets them that all important extra inch, extra tenth of a second, perfect shot, finessed technique, or even just that touch of luck they need to bring home gold.
