Steve Benjamin Leads Etchells NA’s

Belvedere, CA (October 6, 2016) – The 2016 Etchells North American Championship is being held at the San Francisco Yacht Club October 6-8, 2016. Eight races are scheduled, three each on Thursday and Friday, and two on Saturday. One extra race per day may be sailed, provided that the regatta does not become more than one race ahead of schedule. The racing area is in the vicinity of the Berkeley Circle and/or Southampton Shoal.

Eighteen boats have entered the regatta, hailing from the US and New Zealand. Today was the first day of racing, with three races scheduled. Morning clouds gave way to sunshine in the afternoon with temperatures in the 70s and NNE winds shifting to W at 10 to 15 mph.

Marvin Beckman with crew Ezra Culver and Chris Lawson won the first race of the event. Steve Benjamin with his team of Michael Menninger, George Peet, and Ian Liberty finished 2nd in the first race, and won the second race. Only two races were run today. Steve Benjamin and his team lead after the first day of racing, with 3 points, leading Marvin Beckman, who is in 2nd with 6 points.

Racing will continue through Saturday.
