Draheim wins MC Midwinter Champs

Published on March 10th, 2018

After three days of barn burners, drifters, abandonment and picture perfect races, the 55-boat MC Midwinter Championship came down to a three way tie requiring multi-level tie breaking protocol in order to crown Bill Draheim and crew Mary Anne Hopper as the 2018 winner, relegating Scott Harestead and Rob Seidelmenn to second and third, respectively.

With racing held March 8-10 in Eustis, FL, Thursday’s races were in chilly, howling conditions that, at times blasted the fleet near 30mph. Friday’s fare teased with marginal air that led to one abandonment and one completion in 0-6 mph. To everyone’s delight, despite dire forecasts, Saturday delivered exceptional 8-14 mph conditions from the southwest and warmer temperatures.
