Skunked at Star Western Hemispheres

Published on May 22nd, 2019

San Diego, CA (May 22, 2019) – The opening day of the International Star Class 2019 Western Hemisphere Championship was cancelled with winds in the mid-teens, gusting to high teens, but with massive swells and large clumps of kelp littering the course area.

“Our goal is to provide a fair and safe racing venue for our sailors and race committee and unfortunately today, the conditions compromised those values,” explained Regatta Chair John Burnham.

With the race schedule from May 22 to 25, the forecast for the remaining days is considerably improved.
