Max conditions at J/70 North Americans

Published on September 26th, 2019

Cleveland, OH (September 26, 2019) – The second day of the J/70 North American Championship ushered in a NW breeze from 15 to 20 knots with gusts in the high 20s, allowing for two races before racing was called off due to the extreme weather. Capitalizing on the condition was 2016 J/70 World Champion Joel Ronning on Catapult (Victor Diaz De Leon, Christopher Stocke, Patrick Wilson) which took the overall lead today with a 3-1.

“The swells here are wide and further a part which led to amazing downwinds; you felt like you were on a cliff floating above the wave sometimes looking seven feet down,” noted Ronning. “It was a cool experience.”

Martin Johnsson’s crew of Jorgen Johnsson, Lindsay Hernandez, and August Hernandez have a 17 point lead in the 12-boat Corinthian division, moving up to 16th overall.

Four days of racing is planned for September 25 to 28.
