Viewing is for sale in Bermuda

Published on March 15th, 2021

During the 2013 America’s Cup, organizers were in high pursuit to monetize live spectating, and when that plan included on-the-water front row positioning, the government shut them down from selling public space.

While that effort failed in the USA, looks like Bermuda has different rules as everything is for sale for the SailGP Season 2 opener on the Great Sound to watch the eight international teams begin their battle in identical F50 catamarans for the million dollar season prize.

While the Scuttlebutt team will remain at HQ to watch the racing on April 24-25, official spectator boats are selling tickets for ringside views while boat owners can also pay a fee to get a better view.

“The Great Sound is the perfect venue for SailGP and the ideal venue to start the long-awaited season,” remarked Great Britain SailGP Team skipper Ben Ainslie. “The lineup is one of the greatest ever seen in the sport with every team in the running to win races. We can’t wait to get out there and compete, it will be a real spectacle for the fans, there will be no holding back.”

Sounds excellent, and HQ will be pouring Dark ’n’ Stormys as the team’s whiz across the 55” screen, but for anyone that wants a closer look of racing at 50 knots, the view is for sale in Bermuda. For more information, click here.
