USODA 2021 Team Race Champs

The United States Optimist Dinghy Association (USODA) 2021 Optimist Team Race National Championship will be hosted by Hampton Yacht Club, August 1-4, in Hampton, VA. This sailing regatta is for youth, ages 11 to 15. The teams of 4 or 5 competitors represent their home clubs or regions and compete as a group against the other club teams.

The sailors use Optimist sailboats, a small single-handed pram with a single sail. They will compete in a round-robin bracket setup. The youth will sail hard in Hampton Roads off Strawberry Banks for three solid days, with races starting each race day between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. Race days are August 2, 3 and 4.

This event will play host to approximately 20 teams of the best young team racers from all over the country. It’s the first time the event has been hosted by Hampton Yacht Club, and the club leadership is thrilled at the opportunity. Many of the competitors are taking part in the 2021 Optimist National Championship at Big Blue Sailing Academy in Norfolk.
