Magenta Project mentorship: apply now

Published on September 1st, 2021

(September 1, 2021) – The Magenta Project opened applications for the fourth edition of its flagship mentoring program. The Magenta Project Mentoring Program aims to link up aspiring female sailors from across the globe with incredible mentors from the sailing world. It is well known that women particularly respond well to having role models and mentors in their personal and professional development to help them achieve their potential.

Mentors with The Magenta Project work with the mentees off-the-water in a nine-month scheme to help plan their sporting development, overcome hurdles, build contacts, and inspire them to succeed at the highest level possible. In addition, the programme places an emphasis on nurturing a worldwide network of mentees and alumnae who provide peer support, share opportunities, and collaborate on campaigns.

2020/21 American mentee Cam Farrah says of the program: “Thanks to the mentoring program, I feel like my dreams are achievable. My mentor gave me the tools to make my dream a reality and helped me become a more confident person both on and off the water. I now have a solid action plan and my long-term planning and goal setting abilities dramatically increased.”

Since its inception in 2018, the program has seen over 100 women benefit from the program. The 2020/21 mentoring program included 42 mentees from 14 different countries. Mentees are categorized into four focus areas: Olympic/dinghy class transitions, Offshore Sailing, Inshore/Keelboats, and Other/industry, for those who can demonstrate using the scheme to accelerate women to the top of sailing, promote greater gender balance or positive change in the sport of sailing.

Interested sailors can apply by visiting https://themagentaproject.org/mentoring/. The application period runs from September 1st to September 17th, 2021.
