Sunfish US Masters in Mississippi

The US Sunfish Class Association is holding its US Masters Championship on October 14-16 at Bay Waveland Yacht Club in Bay of St. Louis, MS. With 39 Sunfish sailors heading to the starting line, Eduardo Cordero is among the favorites. Originally from Venezuela and now residing in Daleville, AL, Cordero holds Sunfish titles from the Worlds (8), North Americans (6), and South Americans (2).

On Cordero’s heels will be a number of strong Sunfish Masters including Andy Beeckman, a 5o5 transplant, Sunfish veteran Hank Saurage, and Event Chair Eugene Schmitt who won the International Masters two years ago.

Among the top sailors, also look for Susan Tillman Berg and Gail Hausler, both who recently have turned in solid big fleet results. The wild card could be Peter Beardsley, a leading Viper 640 sailor who has added “the fish” to his portfolio in recent years and is doing well locally on the tip of Long Island.
