Spreading the word about Cabarete

Published on December 19th, 2022

Cabarete is a resort town on the Dominican Republic’s northern coast. With Cabarete Bay protected by a coral reef, the calm waters and breezy conditions make it a center for water sports.

Also known as THE WIND AND SURF CITY, Cabarete has been host of Kiteboarding, Windsurfing, Surfing and Sailing events since the late 80s. The conditions deliver a very unique terrain in which the best sailors in the world come to improve…just look at the Guestbook of the ILCA training center.

The New Year in Cabarete will start with the 20th Caribbean ILCA Midwinter Regatta on January 20-22, and Olympic Bronze medalist Diego Romero representing Argentina has confirmed his participation.

This winter in Cabarete will also have the 2023 Master of the Ocean on February 18-28, an event in which the winner is the best overall waterman in the following disciplines: Wingfoiling, Windsurfing, Kitseurfing, Surfing, and paddle-boarding.

The 2023 Formula Kite Pan American Championships follows on March 7-12 in which Cabarete hosts the qualifying event of the Olympic Formula kite class for sailors who are on a campaign to Paris 2024. It’s likely the next Olympic medal in Formula Kite passes through Cabarete.

The 20th edition of the Caribbean ILCA Midwinter Regatta is sponsored by the Dominican Ministry of Tourism, and is organized by the technical team of the Dominican Sailing Federation, under CRO Ms.Chunchina Lopez.
