2023-24 Safety Equipment Requirements

Published on March 8th, 2023

The 2023-2024 US Sailing Safety Equipment Requirements (SER) have been released and are now available online.

The US Sailing Safety Equipment Requirements were initially compiled, with input from the US sailing community, to provide race Organizing Authorities an option to clearly specify safety equipment requirements and to provide the ability to modify those requirements for their particular event and venue.

Changes made to this edition include:
• For the Ocean category an electric pump is now required which aligns the SER with the World Sailing OSRs.
• A revision to the life raft requirement was done to provide clarity.
• For Ocean and Coastal, the requirement for SOLAS smoke flares has been eliminated.
• A two-year revision cycle has been adopted, coming out each odd year, one year behind the World Sailing biennial revision to the OSRs. These lists are good until 12/31/24 unless an emergency necessitates a mid-cycle update. The website is where the most up to date lists can be found.
