PHOTO: Torben Grael breaks mast

(July 10, 2013) – Too much wind and too much wave made the scene of this second day of races in the 2013 Rolex Ilhabela Sailing Week. Torben Grael’s “Magia V/Energisa” broke the mast and have to leave the competition.

Today the five Soto 40s that are competing in this event sailed with strong winds – the gusts reached the speed of 25 knots – and completed two races. In the first course, “Crioula” achieved another victory after winning on Sunday the Alcatrazes race. After Renato Plass’boat, arrived “Magia V/Energisa” and “Carioca 25”.

In the second race of the day, Grael’s crew took the lead, but in the end of the course they had a problem with the mast and Roberto Martins’ “Carioca 25” crossed the finish line in the first position, followed by “Crioula” and “Crioula Super Matanga”.

In the other participating Classes there were other three boats with broken masts, and many other with broken sails. Unluckily, the team of “Magia V/Energisa” had to leave the championship, because they won’t be able to replace it.

These are the results after three races: 1º Crioula (4 pts.), 2º Carioca 25 (6 pts.), 3º Magia V/Energisa (11 pts.), 4º Crioula Super Matanga (12 pts.) and 5º Vésper IV (13 pts.)
