CHI-MAC: Finally enjoying the splendor of this resort island

Published on July 16th, 2013

(July 16, 2013) – It will be hard to forget the 333-mile Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. Anything that lasts this long tends to linger. Light winds, hot temperatures and carnivorous flies were the common thread among the 301 starters, most of which are finally enjoying the splendor of this resort island.

After staggered starts on Friday (cruising division only) and Saturday, 256 boats were now finished with 40 others stepping off the race route, likely a result of their fun meter dipping to dangerous levels. If the balance of the five boats remain on the course… god help them.

Boat finishes have thus far spanned from the Hanse 630e Infinite Diversion at 13:49 on Sunday to the J/105 Banshee at 17:08 today. That’s a long time for the race committee to avoid the bounty of Veuve Clicquot.
