College Sailing Chalk Talk – Season 9, Episode 3

Published on October 3rd, 2013

With the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) 2013-2014 season now underway, Chris Love provides this report along with his weekly Chalk Talk video:

Yale is getting noticed for the huge splash the team has made in its opening weeks of the fall season, ranked number one in both Coed and Women’s categories in the latest Sailing World College Rankings.

This past weekend, they won the St. Mary’s Interconference in St. Mary’s City, MD, their fourth such win in three weekends, this time led by juniors Graham Landy and Katherine Gaumond in A division and Chris Segerblom, Charlotte Belling and Sarah Smith in B. Meanwhile, back in New Haven, their amazingly talented freshmen recruits Ian Barrows and Mitchell Kiss went one-two at the New England Singlehanded Championship to qualify for Nationals later this fall.

Around ICSA, the Championship regattas began to swing into high gear, with University of South Florida junior Chris Stocke taking the win at the SAISA Men’s Singlehanded, Hobart and William Smith College senior Arielle DeLisser claiming the Faye Bennet Trophy at the MAISA Women’s Singlehanded Champs, and University of West Florida getting the win at the SEISA Match Race Champs. College Sailing continues to strengthen its match racing resolve this fall with College of Charleston and Navy each hosting match race events this weekend. Fordham and Michigan are hosting traditional dinghy interconference regattas, but the main event will be the Danmark Trophy at Coast Guard, a qualifier for the ultra-competitive Atlantic Coast Championship at the end of the season. The field at the Danmark will be especially deep since the only competing championships scheduled are the SAISA and NEISA Women’s Singlehanded Champs.
