EIGHT BELLS: Greg Norwine

Published on October 8th, 2013

The sailing and sailing school community lost a bright light as Greg Norwine passed from this earth on October 5, 2013. Greg was the long time owner of Windworks Sailing in Seattle and a long time volunteer for US Sailing, working relentlessly to make the sport and lifestyle of sailing better and bring more people into the sport.

His loved Windworks was famous for being well organized and professional, but even more for having a great heart, due, in part, to Greg’s compassion and kindness. His was a unique blend of Pacific NW can do attitude and Texas charm. He and I hatched many plans about growing sailing over drinks at US Sailing meetings and developed a loving, wonderful friendship. I will miss him.

He leaves behind a wonderful family, great team of owners and staff at Windworks and a huge collection of sailing instructors, instructor trainers and sailing school owners whose lives are better for having known him. There will be a service in remembrance of Greg at 11am on October 19th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 405 117th St., Seattle, WA 98133. – Richard Jepsen, CEO, OCSC Sailing
