ORC Worlds 2014 is open for entries

Published on November 3rd, 2013

The entry system for the ORC Worlds 2014 is now open. Today the host club, the Kieler Yacht-Club, has opened the online entry system so that ORC sailors from all over the world are invited to make their entries for this prestigious event that takes place over August 2-9, 2014 in Kiel, Germany.

The online portal for entry, the Preliminary Notice of Race, and other information about the venue is available at www.orcworlds2014.com.

The Kieler Yacht-Club is delighted to welcome an expected crowd of 700 sailors from more than 10 nations to attend this event, held annually since 1999 and sanctioned by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) as the official World Championship of offshore sailing.

“We expect 80 high-tech yachts in the Olympic Centre Kiel-Schilksee and some exciting competition on the race courses,” said Eckhard von der Mosel, chair of the ORC Worlds organization committee in Kiel, Germany. “The Kieler Yacht-Club is a professional club with more than 130 years of successful history. The sailors will find a professional jury and organization team and a top-notch port infrastructure to accommodate all the entries.”

Teams from throughout the region have already started to sign up, including the current ORC European Champion, Thomas Nilsson’s TP 52 Truknor Wolfpack from Norway. Also entered are the German all-women’s crew on Tutima, a DK 46 skippered by Kirsten Harmstorf, and Thomas Blixt with his TP 52 Blixt Pro Sailing from Sweden.

In addition to Kiel’s perfect August sailing conditions, participating sailors will await a great social event program held ashore during the event. The Opening Sailors Party and the Midweek Sailors Party will be held in the event centre in the harbor area. All sailors on board entered yachts will get free entrance and complementary food served at the post-race parties. Additional tickets for others will be available for purchase via the online entry system.

For the accredited media there will be a Press Office with broadband access and working stations. Media boats will be also available.

From May to August crews will have the opportunity to test themselves on the race course areas used at the ORC Worlds. First will be the May Offshore Regatta at the Olympic Centre Kiel-Schilksee and Strande from May 2nd to 4th, where up to 40 ORC yachts are expected to participate. And then over June 22nd to 29th there is the world-famous Kieler Woche which will attract over 100 ORC entries, and held concurrently with the German Offshore Championship (IDM).

Entries to the 2014 ORC Worlds will enjoy adjacent moorings in an area of the Kiel-Schilksee harbor dedicated for the event, and will also be able to choose from a wide variety of accommodation types, ranging from camping sites close to the boat park to several nearby hotels. For those not racing Kiel has family-friendly sand beaches near the Kiel-Schilksee harbor.

“We are pleased to have the Kieler-Yacht Club continue its strong tradition of hosting world-class sailing events with the 2014 ORC Worlds,” said Bruno Finzi, Chairman of the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC). “We have no doubt that Kiel will produce the same strong turnout and competitive racing we have had in our most recent World Championships, and will support their every effort to produce the best quality racing experience for all participants.”
