New Sydney to Auckland World Record

Published on November 5th, 2013

The World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) has established a new Sydney to Auckland World Record. On October 16-18, Sean Langman (AUS) and five crew sailed the 1265 nm route on the ORMA 60 Team Australia, covering the distance in 2 days 19 hours 2 minutes and 45 seconds for an average speed of 18.87 knots. While a benchmark would have been set during the 1997/8 Volvo Race, at present the WSSRC has been unable to establish this crossing time, though it is believed to be slower than this latest claim.
