PHOTO: US Navy gets largest and most expensive destroyer ever

The USS Zumwalt hit the water Oct. 29 and is due to start patrolling by 2014. The Zumwalt is big: It is 610 feet long, has an 11,000-square foot flight deck, and displaces 14,564 tons of water. The Zumwalt was originally estimated to cost about $3.8 billion, but so much technology was crammed onboard that its cost has nearly doubled, and after the first three are built, production will stop.
